Electricity and emails

Just because our characters live in a world where it's impossible to go to the dunny without a shotgun in hand, doesn't mean that we can't have ways to talk to each other. So, after some discussion on the cb, i thought i'd stick this thread up so you guys can have your input as to what should be allowed and what shouldn't.

Please keep in mind the world has ended so plugging something into a power socket won't work except for in states with self regulating power sources eg the hover dam will continue to make electricity for the state it's in because it's powered by a river. Most places wont have this luxury so if you want laptops and the like you'll have to power them off of your dwindling supply of portable batteries, do you really want to waste such a valuable resource?

Also, it is entirely possible that the internet, or at least the parts we would use such as google, hotmail, and whatnot no longer work as no one is there to maintain the system. However this is a fantasy rp so if you guys can convince Cam and Steph that being able to email each other would be useful, we could probably overlook this little flaw haha.

Boards

Another suggestion that's been brought up is the creation of a board in each convoy's area to represent the borders between it and the other convoys. This could be handy for when, down the track, plots evolve that interact between convoys.

The other point i should raise is the notion that we should make a "central safehouse" of a sort. Here convoys can share supplies, leave mail for each other, etc.

So yes, throw in your thoughts and opinions all, and lets us know if you have other ideas as well. All input is welcomed

Iridium Brand Motorola Satellite phones are being sold commercially through Wal-Mart, Target, Radio Shack, and Best Buy as well as over the internet, in the Seattle Needle thread. These phones can be charged through a car jack, and use satellite feeds. They're about the size of a small flashlight and can use both commercially viable ( 640Hz - 1080 Hz civilian and military channels as well as CB frequencies ). They are adaptable for blue tooth, and the average battery takes about 25 minutes to charge and can hold that charge for 8 hours.

They're durable enough to survive combat ( they've been used in the current War Theatres in Afghanistan and Iraq ) in short I guess I'm saying that it shouldn't be all that hard for a person with any survival sense would be able to find one and use it.

Oh and best of all, you can buy cards for them, they're water proof and designed to be durable. You sync them like you would a bluetooth and they're designed to provide payments in hostile enviroments, where you might not have a credit card, so all you need is one of those cards that hasn't been used to make payments.
